In the elevated areas of the Erzgebirge, brightly blossoming meadows can be found, which mainly consist of Meum athamanticum, Geranium sylvaticum and red fescue (Festuca rubra ssp. nigrescens). These grow mainly on nutrient poor weathered soils from granite and gneiss with a partially high percentage of breeze. The Meum mountain meadows are differentiated into four subassociations formed by ecological and usage based conditions: subass. with Polygonum bistorta, subass. with Cirsium heterophyllum, subass. typicum, and subass. with Nardus stricta.A sociological comparison between the eastern and western distribution is carried out. Regional, geographical vegetation units for Eifel and Hunsrück, Black Forest, Thuringian Forest, and Franconian Forest can be clearly identified.Key words: Meo athamantici-Centaureetum nigrae-pseudophrygiae Klapp 1951, Cirsium heterophyllum, Meo-Festucetum Bartsch & Bartsch 1940, Eifel/Hunsrück, Schwarzwald, Thüringer Wald, Frankenwaldeng
