dc.description.abstract | Dörfelt, H.; Ruske, E.: Study of the life history of the rust fungus Hyalopsora aspidiotus. – HercyniaN. F. 43 (2010): 71–83.The holarctic, heteroecious and macrocyclic rust fungus Hyalopsora aspidiotus mainly occurs in CentralEurope in the dicaryontic phase on the fern Gymnoscarpium dryopteris. The experimentally proven hostchange with Abies spp. as haplont is not obligate since this fungus is perennial in Gymnocarpus spp., i. e.its reproduction is mainly accomplished by means of uredospores and hibernating amphispores, so thatthis fungus also occurs far outside of the distribution areas of Abies spp. in the Holarctic. The teliospores occur in spring as first spore form and germinate immediately with basidia. They produce,in some cases in an anomalous manner, basidiospores or germinate with hyphae. It is possible that these hyphae are able to undergo dikaryosis and perhaps attack the dicaryont host. Thus Hyalopsora aspidiotus represents a developmental line from a heter-euform to a hemiform, possiblymaintaining the ability of genetic recombination via meiosis, despite the lost host change.Key words: Basidiomycota, Uredinomycetes, Pucciniales, Hyalopsora, life cycle | ger |
