Jentzsch, M.: Knowledge about the occurrence of the Common Dormouse (Muscardinus avellanarius Linnaeus, 1758) in Saxony-Anhalt. - Hercynia N.F. 37 (2004): 127–135.The distribution of the Common Dormouse in Saxony-Anhalt is described on the basis of ordnance survey map quadrants using both published and unpublished data. Altogether 39 quadrant recordings exist from the period since 1980. For four quadrants the latest records date between 1920 and 1979 and in another 14 quadrants from the years before 1920. There are three hot-spots located in the Harz mountains, south western part of the Unstrut-Trias region and the Zeitzer Forst woodlands. Beside this there are two populations in Lower Saxony and Thuringia which are most likely to interact with neighbouring populations in Saxony-Anhalt. Isolated woodlands, like Hakel, Huy or Ziegelrodaer Forst just as the edge of the eastern Harz mountains are avoided by dormice.eng
