N, J.: Snailfauna (Mollusca: Gastropoda) of isolated floodplain forests fragments at the Elster- Luppe-floodplain in Saxony-Anhalt. – Hercynia N. F. 35: 137-143.Gastropod communities were investigated in 40 neighbouring fragmented floodplain forests with different sizes (0.04 to 20.4 ha) in Central Germany. Species numbers of land snail communities varied between 4 and 23. An increase in species richness and diversity of the land snail communities was noticed in connection with the sizes of forest fragments. Species numbers decreased with the distance to the next forest fragment with a size over 1.5 ha. KÖRNIG (2000) designate Succinea putris, Aegopinella nitidula, Balea biplicata, Fruticicola fruticum and Arianta arbustorum as the characteristic species of the floodplain forest in Central Germany. These five land snails would be shown also in subject to the size of the floodplain forests.eng
