R, M.; SCHWAB, M.: The Wettin-Rhyolite - contribution to superficial distribution and origin of a Halle Quartz Porphyry.- Hercynia N.F. 33 (2000): 173-190. The Halle-Volcanite-Complex originated in the Saale Trough in the period between Upper Carboniferous and Rotliegend. This area is composed of several differently !arge volcanic units of which the Wettin-Rhyolite is the westernmost situated. This rhyolite distinguishes itself through his weil recognizeable structural characteristics. From its origin in form could be concluded an intrusive emplacement of Iava by a laccolite. After his eruption and uplift the rhyolite was eroded for first time in the Rotliegend. During the Mesozoic Era the rhyolite unit was covered by sediments. In the Tertiary Period a renewed uplift took place and the Halle-Volcanite-Complex was uncovered by erosion. In the course of the Quaternary Period the present relief emerged. Keywords: rhyolith; emplacment; Rotliegend; laccolith, Halle-Vulcanite-Complexeng
