dc.description.abstractÜELERICH, H.-M.: Investigations on Orthoptera s.l. within the open-cast Iignite post-mirring landscapes of Sachsen-Anhalt (Germany). - Hercynia N. F. 33 (2000): 117-154. Between 1996-1998 investigations on Orthoptera were carried out within the open-cast Iignite postmirring Iandscapes of Sachsen-Anhalt. Species-lists taken from 235 locations (including 25 from other authors) are evaluated and characteristic species of the investigated habitat-types are shown. Currently 35 species of Saltatoria, 4 species of Dermaptera and 3 species of Blattoptera are known from post-mining Iandscapes of Sachsen-Anhalt. Theseare 60% (Saltatoria), 80% (Dermaptera) and 38 % (Biattoptera) of the known species in Sachsen-Anhalt. The investigated fauna shows great similarity to those of the post-mining areas in the northwestern Niederlausitz; differences are obvious only for a few species. The paper gives information about the distribution of the recorded species in the different mirring regions in Central Germany. It makes remarks on the habitat preferences of some species ( e.g. of the four recorded Tetrix-species) and the assessment of population densities (Sphingonotus caerulans, Oedipoda caerulescens). Finally the importance of the different habitat types for the conservation of endangered Orthoptera species is discussed. Most important are the sparsely vegetated or non-vegetated open biotops, sandy dry grasslands as weil as varied wet grasslands and reeds. Endangered characteristic species of these habitats are (sparsely vegetated or non-vegetated biotops:) Labidura riparia, S. caerulans, (sandy dry grasslands:) 0. caerulescens, Myrmeleotettix maculatus, Platycleis albopunctata, Conocephalus discolor, (wet grasslands, reeds:) Chrysochraon dispar, Conocephalus dorsalis and Stethophyma grossum. The results show the great importance of the open-cast post-mining Iandscapes for the protection of endangered Orthoptera species. In future as the ground water Ievel rises (resulting in !arge waterfilled pits) many of these biotops will disappear. Therefore it is imperative that we prompt political efforts and decision to protect and develop the remairring important habitats.
