Abstract: This article describes the flooding of the closing-down open-cut mines in Central Germany. The redesign of the landscape characterised by open-cut mining in Central Germany causes a change of the present Iandscape image and to the formation of a lake and recreating Iandscape at the area. By means of results in the investigation of the water in the developing lakes in the closing-down open-cut mines, the present and the future quality of these lakes will be discussed with a view on their utilisation as bathing facilities.
