Thailand has been one of the most common destinations for retirement migrants worldwide for centuries. Known for its supposedly healthy climatic conditions, high-quality care facilities, and the availability of attractive, primarily female lovers, many German migrants seek to improve their life quality in the Southeast Asian country. However, retiring in Thailand is not always successful, as several problems can arise. The purpose of this paper is to examine aspects associated with a failing migration of German retirees to the country and to explain their interrelations. Furthermore, the organization and procedures of the returns to Germany shall be analyzed. With the help of the internet, four suitable persons have been acquired and questioned in guided interviews. Overall, four aspects contributing to a failing migration can be distinguished: the financial circumstances of the retirees and their families; a lack of language skills; interpersonal and integration conflicts; failed relationships and marriages. The return to Germany then proceeds mostly unplanned and forced rather than well-prepared.ger
