Purpose/Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate: histological results after stereotactic vacuum-assisted-core-biopsy (VB) in 1996/97, histological underestimation in cases of malignancy (comparison VB vs. open surgical biopsy) acceptance of women, complication rate and mammografic findings pre and post VB and follow-up (4-6 month after VB) in cases with benign histology. Material and Methods: Statistical evaluation of 402 VB, 234 questionnaires in cases with benign histology and 204 follow-up mammografies Results: 16% of preselectet suspect mammografic findings were malignant. Underestimation (comparison VB vs. op): 4/26 DCIS and 1/8 ADH were found. Rate of complication (0,75%) and scar is low. Follow-up group was without false negative histology. 95% of women would prefer VB (vs. op) in cases of recurrence. Conclusion: VB is an accurate diagnostic method for small nonpalpable breast lesions. This method promises to replace diagnostic open biopsy of indeterminate or suspicious nonpalpable leasons. |
