The first two chapters of Bhāskara’s Śarīrakamīmāṃsābhāṣya - critically edited with an introduction, notes and an appendix

Abstract

Gegenstand vorliegender Dissertation ist die textkritische Neuedition der ersten beiden Kapitel des Śārīrakamīmāṃsābhāṣya des Bhāskara auf der Grundlage des Nachlasses von J.A.B. van Buitenen und der neu identifizierten Handschriften nebst Einleitung, Annotationen und Appendix. Für den neuen kritischen Text kollationierete ich neun neu identifizierte Handschriften (vier davon unvollständig) und zwei Handschriften, welchen van Buitenen hohen Wert beimaß, nach. Der Text und die Lesarten der Erstausgabe Dvivedins wurden auch vollständig dokumentiert, was van Buitenen in seiner Edition unterlassen hatte. Der kritisch edierte Text wird mit einem dreifachen kritischen Apparat präsentiert, damit Leser des Textes alle erforderliche Informationen, d.h. alle Lesarten in den Handschriften und der Ausgabe, die Quellen der Zitate, den Querverweisen im Text und Diskussionsstruktur zwischen pūrvapakṣin und siddhāntin auf einen Blick finden können. Dem Text werden Notizen, die weitere Erklärung zu Text und Apparat geben, sowie Indices der Zitate und Quellen hinzugefügt.

The objective of this dissertation is to publish a new critical edition of the first two chapters of Bhāskara’s Śārīrakamīmāṃsābhāṣya on the basis of the posthumous material of the late Prof. van Buitenen and newly identified Sanskrit manuscripts along with an introduction, annotations and an appendix. For the new critical text I have collated nine newly identified manuscripts and two manuscripts on which van Buitenen put much value. The text and variants collected in the first edition of Dvivedin, which van Buitenen has not included in his edition, have also been completely recorded in the new edition. This critical edition is represented in the three layered critical apparatus through which readers of the text find all necessary information, i.e., all variants in the manuscripts and the editions, the source of citations, cross-reference in the text, the structure of the discussion between pūrvapakṣin und siddhāntin at a glance. Notes on the text and the apparatus, indices of sources and citations are also added to the text.
